Understanding Emotional Advertising

In the recent decades, you may have noticed that there’s been a trend of company brands tugging at our emotional heartstrings via ads that evoke strong emotional response.

Though many of them do not seem to actually be about their product or service, you can’t help but think back to that one ad that keeps on coming up in regular conversations with your peers. That’s the power of emotional advertising. It’s no secret that as humans, we tend to remember or give importance to anything that evokes emotions.

The challenge for brands however, is how to stay relevant to consumers over the years. In the age of the internet and social media, almost anything can be copied by just following step-by-step guides posted online by content creators. As a brand, your product or service has to stand out among others. So what can you do?

It’s no secret that as humans, we tend to remember or give importance to anything that evokes emotions.

You make interactions with your customers consistently good (which is a given), and your advertising relatable to your average consumer. With social media, you can find a plethora of examples with which to use. From relatable funny memes to everyday experiences, your pool of resources is constantly expanding, depending on people’s circumstances, current trends or events.

In the case of memes, it is paramount to avoid repurposing it to fit a narrative – you’ll want to preserve it’s intended messaging and format for it to have any impact. Otherwise, your advertising may be labelled ‘cringey’ (and we want to avoid that at all costs!)

By using tools that are often freely available, such as social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, you can make impactful, emotional advertising that lingers in the hearts and minds of your consumers.
